What's Happening at AAACE

Association Management Opportunity

The application process for association management for AAACE is now closed.

“AAACEd It!” Selected as Name for New Webinar Initiative

The AAACE board recently formed a subcommittee to create operational procedures and support mechanisms for implementation of an association-wide educational webinar initiative. All current AAACE members were invited to help name this fledgling program. A webinar subcommittee selected the winning name from among nine suggestions based on factors such as: impact as related to the AAACE's mission; creativity; and marketing potential; among other considerations.

AnnMarie Marlier, PhD, Dean of Graduate Programs & Faculty Development at Midland University, proposed the winning name: “AAACEd It!.” According to AnnMarie, “It works with the organization name and our commitment to excellence through the continuing education of adults.” AnnMarie was previously a student member of AAACE, and is renewing as a higher education professional. She will receive both an association mug and one-year individual membership for her efforts.

According to J. Bernard Bradley, subcommittee chair and director of the Commission for Distance Learning and Technology (CDLT), “procedures are now in place for AAACE leaders, including commission directors, special interest group (SIG) chairs, and board officers, to request and sponsor live educational webinars on topics relating to the broad field of adult education.” The AAACE board has recently subscribed to the Go-to-Webinar platform, which accommodates both electronic registration and webinar hosting functionalities. Technical assistance is provided to approved webinar sponsors for quality assurance purposes and to ensure consistency across presentations. Select recorded webinars are archived for viewing on demand by members.

Additional information on the new “AAAACEd It!” initiative will be posted on the association website over the next few weeks. A recent webinar also informed AAACE leaders of the processes for approval and setup of future presentations. Registration information for webinars will be shared with AAACE members as they are approved. Committee members include: J. Bernard Bradley, subcommittee chair; Fred Prasuhn, technical facilitator; Nancy Fire; and Steve McCaskey.

From the Preface: "This “American heritage” history traces the roots of federal involvement in adult education in order to place federal adult education acts into historical perspective. This history is one of many education resource documents; however, it is the first resource that contains the history of adult education acts from 1964 to 13 years into the new century—2013."
