Letter From the President

It’s amazing how time flies -- whether we want it to or not! It seems my term as president began only a few weeks ago, but instead, I’m almost at the halfway point! I consider serving in any leadership role for our association, a distinct honor. That brings me to the focus of this article: the opportunity to serve.
There are a number of elected positions in our association: president, president-elect, secretary, and two directors-at-large. For the past number of years, nominees for president-elect won by a landslide. Do you know why? Because there was a single eligible nominee each time. Fortunately, the association has a rigorous nomination process and stringent requirements for those seeking the position. The nominees that were successful in becoming president-elect were definitely qualified, per the vetting process.
Our association also has appointed and member-endorsed leadership positions. These include treasurer, commission director, and special interest group (SIG) leader or chairperson. We also have ad hoc and temporary leadership positions, including those on conference planning committees, task teams, and special project teams.
So, why not take the opportunity to serve in your association? You are wanted and needed. Moreover, there are many benefits to serving as an AAACE leader, such as acting on your belief in the spirit of volunteerism, finding self-fulfillment, feeling a sense of accomplishment, personal development and growth. Do you want to know how or where to start? Here’s where to find information about positions that can afford you the opportunity to serve: Bylaws (members only -- must login), Policies & Procedures Manual (members only -- must login), Contact an AAACE leader.
As I wrap up this article, I want to express my sincere gratitude to current AAACE leaders and our management team. Thank you all for your time, energy, effort, and support!
