Dr. Bernadine Raiskums is a scholar and practitioner who has lived, learned, and worked in Alaska since 1968. Her career path as a public servant paralleled her life-long pursuit of further education as she progressed from clerical positions to analyst, auditor, controller, and adjunct instructor at University of Alaska and Alaska Pacific University. She has published a number of articles and served in the roles of president, treasurer, and newsletter editor for a number of organizations related to both her professional and academic interests. She took an early retirement from compensated employment to focus on graduate studies with the goal of maximizing her potential to serve as an adult education resource in her community. She was awarded a PhD in Education in 2008 with her dissertation An Analysis of the Concept Criticality in Adult Education.

In August 2011 Dr. Raiskums responded to the request for a volunteer editor for the AAACE newsletter and appreciated the opportunity to serve in that capacity for the subsequent two years. She currently volunteers her time with OLE! Inc., a nonprofit organization affiliated with the University of Alaska providing opportunities for lifelong education in Anchorage, the Alaska Literacy Program, the Alaska Native Plant Society, and the Alaska VA Healthcare System and Regional Office.
