Tips for Planning your Week in Memphis

If you’re the pre-planner that I am, then you’ve already started checking out the Schedule of Events for AAACE 2017. And, if you’re also like me, then you’re trying to make sure that you don’t miss a thing. So, let me see if I can share a few tips with you as you plan each day in Memphis. Here are some activities in addition to the concurrent, shared-concurrent, and roundtable sessions that you won’t want to miss.

Tuesday, October 31

3:00 to 5:00 - We won’t be trick-or-treating, but we’ll hear the latest updates from President Steven Frye. Come prepared to share your opinions and vote on AAACE matters.

5:00 to 6:30 - Relax and meet fellow AAACE members at the President’s Reception

Wednesday, November 1

8:30 to 9:00 - Start your day with good conversation and a continental breakfast

10:45 to 11:15 - Chat with various authors of leading adult education texts at Connection Central

11:15 to 12:30 - "Making a Difference: Challenges and Possibilities for a Diverse Field” Keynote by Drs. Amy Rose, Jovita Ross-Gordon, and Carol Kasworm

12:30 to 1:45 - Use this extended break to grab a bite to eat with friends and colleagues. You may want to meet up with fellow SIG members or new colleagues from AAACE. If you need restaurant suggestions, ask our Connection Central volunteers before you head out to Beale Street.

3:45 to 5:00 - Engage with our poster presenters and learn the latest research, practice, and theory in adult and continuing education. Don’t forget to vote for your favorite posters!

5:00 to 5:45 - Join other early career faculty at Connection Central for this informal networking opportunity.

6:30 to 9:00 - The connection between adult education and social justice is clearly on display at the National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel www.civilrightsmuseum.org/ Make sure you buy your tickets early for this tour of this impactful site including an authentic Memphis bbq dinner.

Thursday, November 2

8:00 to 8:45 - Network with your colleagues at the Graduate Student Breakfast (RSVP)

8:30 to 9:00 - Start your day with good conversation and a continental breakfast

10:45 to 11:15 - Continue to chat with the authors of leading adult education texts at Connection Central

12:15 to 1:15 - Join us for a catered lunch and meet 2017 AAACE Award winners.

4:00 to 5:00 - Find out what’s new and who’s who with your commissions.

5:00 to ? - Sign up for a dinner group at Connection Central and meet even more colleagues

Friday, November 3

8:30 to 9:00 - Start your day with good conversation and a continental breakfast

11:30 to 1:00 - Finish the conference on a high note by joining Dr. Dan Pratt at his keynote address "Variations on a Theme of Good Teaching”.
