Welcome to the latest edition of The CDLT News!  As the AAACE’s newest of eight commissions, the CDLT was formed because of the growing influence of online and other distance learning technologies on adult learning. AAACE supports the CDLT to provide members with opportunities to share best practices and research on how adults are learning in networked learning environments. Our goal is to increase communication and collaboration among adult educators across academic, workplace, community, and other settings who have an interest in sharing their knowledge and practice about learning with virtual and other technologies. The CDLT News, our biannual newsletter, is designed to not only share best practices but also engage members through an ever-evolving array of volunteer and networking opportunities.

Regardless of any time limitations or work-life balance issues, there is a place for you to engage with the CDLT and its members. New for this edition are blog posts. Some blogs feature research or best practices on a wide spectrum of technology-related topics from the recent AAACE conference in Oklahoma City, while others highlight noteworthy educational or community outreach activities, both nationally and internationally. Social media is just one of many relevant topics on which CDLT experts are blogging in 2016! More technology blogs will be posted on a monthly basis and through future newsletters.

Additional opportunities to learn or engage are highlighted in this newsletter. For example, an enhanced lineup of CDLT webinars are featured as part of the new AAACEd It! Webinar Series. CDLT leadership played a primary role in collaborating with AAACE board leadership to develop this association-wide initiative. Year-long planning efforts resulted in a naming contest and creation of forms and processes that streamline operations and the provision of technical support to AAACE leaders who coordinate future AAACEd It! webinars.

If blogging is not your forte, consider any of the following ways to engage. Some require less than an hour of time. They include but are not limited to:

  • Joining the CDLT. Contact the AAACE national office for details;
  • Volunteering for a leadership role or as a committee member;
  • Submitting a proposal to present on distance learning or technology at the annual conference;
  • Reviewing CDLT proposals to present at the annual AAACE conference;
  • Suggesting webinar topics or volunteering as a presenter or panelist;
  • Proposing community outreach or grant-related activities for the CDLT;
  • Participating in discussions through the CDLT’s emergent Linked-In subgroup, which is open to both AAACE members and non-members; and
  • Other activities of interest to CDLT members.

On behalf of our growing leadership team and membership, we welcome your participation in the CDLT Commission and your ideas for opportunities to explore that we have not included. Also, visit the CDLT webpage within the AAACE website by late February as we launch an expanded site.
