Save the date for our next CDLT webinar, Tuesday, March 22, 2016, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET, when our featured guest presenter, Dr. Michael Simonson discusses “Distance Education, Online Learning, and Scholarly Publishing: Expanding Your Scholarly Agenda.” This will be a great way to continue the discussion began in our Feb. 4 webinar. Seats are limited to the first 100 registrants. Approximately two weeks prior to the webinar, all current CDLT and AAACE members will receive instructions via email on reserving a FREE seat in cyberspace. Information will also be posted on the AAACE website.

Tele means distance; add these four letters to any discipline and you have a scholarly growth area, such as telemedicine, telelaw, and telephysical therapy. Adding “tele” to a discipline is nice, but the most used phrase in education and training is distance education.

This highly interactive webinar will present the process of writing about distance education at the intersection of adult and continuing education in varied subject areas. It will also emphasize the previously secret journal editor’s tips for successfully publishing about distance education/e-learning or online teaching. Attendees will have ample time for questions throughout the webinar.

Michael Simonson is the editor of two scholarly journals, association conference proceedings, and a book series. His webinar will:

  • begin with an explanation of the impact of distance education on adult and continuing education in varied settings;
  • present a brief overview of what is in the literature;
  • introduce journals of possible interest to the adult educator;
  • present the 10 secrets to successful publishing from the perspective of the journal editor;
  • identify “red flag” themes – topics to avoid or propose gently;
  • consider successful themes for research agendas; and
  • conclude with examples of topics in need of publications.

The target audience includes anyone seeking to develop or enhance their scholarly agendas, including graduate students, those seeking tenure-track or adjunct teaching positions, current instructors or professors seeking tenure, independent scholars, continuing education or professional development practitioners, program managers, consultants and others.

Dr. Michael Simonson is chair of the Instructional Design and Technology Department and a program professor at Nova Southeastern University in the Instructional Technology and Distance Education program. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in Instructional Systems. He was named Professor of the Year for the Fischler School of Education at Nova Southeastern University for 2012-13. Simonson has authored four major textbooks dealing with distance education, instructional technology, instructional computing, and instructional media. He has more than 200 scholarly publications and in excess of 250 professional presentations dealing with distance education and instructional technology. He is editor of two academic journals and one yearly convention proceedings, and he co-authors a book series. Simonson has been an active grant writer. His area of research interest is the diffusion of distance education in various organizations. Simonson was honorably discharged as a Captain from the United States Marine Corps (R).
