2017 AAACE Presidential Award
for Exceptional and Innovative Leadership in Adult Continuing Education

Dr. James E. Witte

The American Association for Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE) recently presented the 2017 AAACE Presidential Award to Dr. James E. Witte of Auburn, Alabama.

Dr. Witte was recognized for his outstanding contributions and innovative leadership to the field of adult continuing education and to the Association.
In every field there are those who surpass their peers both in terms of their vision of the future and their ability to mobilize others in shaping that future. Leaders demonstrate a clear vision of what should be and a well-thought out strategy to achieve that vision. Leaders demonstrate their effectiveness by the results they achieve and by influencing outcomes by gaining the willing cooperation of colleagues/contemporaries in pursuing commonly held goals and objectives. This award is presented to a person from education, government, industry or other sectors who demonstrate exceptional and innovative leadership to or in support of adult and continuing education. The AAACE Presidential Award is presented to the individual who embodies these traits.

Dr. James E. Witte is a professor of adult education and is currently a member of the teaching faculty and at Auburn University. As a member of the Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology Department, he is involved in numerous tasks involving and academic research and classroom teaching.

His academic accomplishments include the publishing of three books, several book chapters and numerous other journal publications and conference presentations. His primary interests involve teaching and training in governmental and industrial settings.
His training development client list includes: IMC-Agrico, The Port of Tampa, FL, Nissan Corporation, Wonderbread, Coca-Cola, Cargill Fertilizer, Florida Departments of Transportation, Labor and Corrections and many other private sector and governmental agencies.

Dr. Witte’s international interests are also noteworthy. He was teaching at the Suez Canal University in Egypt during the Arab Spring, served on a program evaluation team in Tunisia, multiple projects in Saudi Arabia and is currently involved on a highly visible project in Malawi, developing distance learning capability and participant training and evaluation.
His professional organization membership includes: American Association for Adult and Continuing Education, American Educational Research Association and the Commission of Professors of Adult Education.
