National Coalition for Literacy (NCL)

Find out more about the newest blog and PIAAC information sheets from the National Coalition for Literacy (NCL) on their new website!

AAACE is one of over 25 members of The National Coalition for Literacy (NCL). The NCL mission is "To advance adult education, family literacy, and English language acquisition in the U.S. by increasing public awareness for the need to increase funding and programs; promoting effective public policy; and serving as an authoritative resource on national adult education issues" ( NCL works directly to impact legislation and public policy, and to develop partnerships and raise awareness of literacy. AAACE's membership in NCL is of great value to our association and our members, as NCL provides the visibility, influence, and advocacy needed to represent the needs of adult learners and the programs that serve them.

The Program for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC)

The website for The Program for International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC) contains a lot of information on adult education. It also includes several fact sheets of interest to adult educators. For information on PIAAC, check out the site below:

If you are looking for more facts about how PIAAC survey findings relate to adult education, we've got some for you! The National Coalition for Literacy now has two new PIAAC-related factsheets on its website:

Investing in Adult Education Pays! for Educational Attainment, and
Investing in Adult Education Pays! for Fully Integrated Communities

You can access both new factsheets here: The factsheets are designed to give highlights from PIAAC results and fresh facts from other very recent sources - and links to those sources are included. If you are sharing the factsheets with others who are not already familiar with some of the basic facts about PIAAC, you may want to point them to the First Look materials on the same page.
